Appointment FAQ:

How is "medical marijuana" different?

Medical marijuana is medical grade, specially grown under “organic” conditions to make sure it is 100% pure, that no dangerous chemicals have been used, and that it is free of all contaminants. Additionally, it is tested for purity and the percentage of different kinds of cannabinoids.

After registering with the MMCC, what's next?

Once registered, patients must obtain a valid written certification from a provider registered with the Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission. The patient is required by law to have a bona fide provider-patient relationship with the provider and the provider must approve medical cannabis as a treatment option for the patient for a qualifying medical condition. Qualifying medical conditions include cachexia, anorexia, wasting syndrome, severe pain, severe nausea, seizures, severe or persistent muscle spasms, glaucoma, post-traumatic stress disorder and chronic pain.

What do I need to bring to a dispensary?

When purchasing medical cannabis at a dispensary, patients will be required to present their valid US government-issued photo ID (or MMCC ID card). The dispensary agent will verify the patient’s certification in the Commission’s database before conducting any transaction.

How old do I need to be to participate in the MD Medical Marijuana Program?

Children who meet their provider’s criteria for treatment can become legal patients in Maryland. However, children must have a parent or guardian serve as a caregiver.

How will my privacy be protected?

All of our patients at the National Holistic Healing Center are protected under HIPAA. Strict rules protect the privacy of these records, including the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996. Your identity and patient status in the medical marijuana program may never be disclosed to anyone without your prior authorization.

The HIPAA Privacy Rule provides federal protections for individually identifiable health information held by covered entities and their business associates and gives patients an array of rights with respect to that information.

The HIPAA Privacy Rule establishes national standards to protect individuals’ medical records and other personal health information and applies to health plans, health care clearinghouses, and those health care providers that conduct certain healthcare transactions electronically.

The Rule requires appropriate safeguards to protect the privacy of personal health information, and sets limits and conditions on the uses and disclosures that may be made of such information without patient authorization. The Security Rule specifies a series of administrative, physical, and technical safeguards for covered entities and their business associates to use to assure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of electronic protected health information.

Our medical clinic provides patients seeking a safer alternative to pharmaceutical therapies legal access to medical cannabis. Patients will be seen by Alison Eissler, CRNP, a certified provider with the Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission (MMCC).

Alison started offering medical cannabis certifications after witnessing the success her mother had treating her ALS with medical marijuana. Before turning to cannabis her mother was prescribed individual medications to treat each of her symptoms, each one came with its own set of side effects. It wasn’t until she tried marijuana that she finally began to experience relief from her symptoms.

This experience cemented Alison’s belief in the effectiveness of this alternative medicine for many conditions.

Each patient of Mavi Wellness will be evaluated in accordance with the MMCC’s guidelines to determine if they would benefit from the use of medical cannabis. Our staff understands that becoming a medical cannabis patient can be confusing, so we are here to walk you through the process and answer any questions you may have.

We are located within Charm City Health, an integrative practice, which has many complimentary therapies, such as acupuncture, massage, and cryotherapy. Our center is conveniently located in Baltimore City’s Canton neighborhood and is easily accessible from Fells Point, Harbor East, Federal Hill, Dundalk, Essex and surrounding areas.
